The famous Norwegian Coastal Voyage journey offered by Hurtigruten is often described as ‘the world’s most beautiful voyage’ and provides a cruise for people who want to see more than just the sea.

Every day, a ship travels up and down the magnificent coastline of Norway from Bergen in the South to Kirkenes in the North calling at 34 ports along the way, most of which are never visited by the larger cruise liners.

For over a century, the Hurtigruten fleet has carried passengers, mail and supplies to ports both large and small along the Norwegian coastline offering a lifeline to remote communities, particularly in the winter months.
There is no dressing for dinner and no fighting for the Captain’s table – this journey is about immersing yourself in the heart of the destination’s culture.
Travelling on Hurtigruten is the best way to meet those who live and work along the coast with many communities intricately linked with the sea and the fishing industry, as indeed they have been for centuries.

Norway offers a voyage for all seasons. With endless days and endless nights, each season casts its own distinctive spell on the Norwegian coastline and each voyage presents a unique and ever-changing tapestry of awe-inspiring grandeur. The Hurtigruten fleet consists of 11 intimate, purpose-built vessels that have been specifically designed for the waters in which they operate. At any one time, no fewer than 10 of these impressive ships ply the route along the Norwegian Coast, affording a unique insight into the fascinating heart of its coastal communities.

During the winter months, the natural Phenomenon of the Northern Lights is something many people wish to see. The celestial displays of greens, yellows and reds that dance in the sky have over time inspired artist and poets and created myths and legends.
There is no better way to experience the Northern Lights than by sailing through the sheltered coastal waters, on board a ship from the Hurtigruten fleet as the Northern Lights are set against a dark sky, free from artificial light. In the winter a range of itineraries are available that combine a trip on the Hurtigruten with activities such as dog sledging or staying in an ice hotel. On many of the trips, the ship travels above the Arctic Circle, where the chances of seeing the Northern Lights are even higher.
