My first family holiday was in 1980 to Perth in Scotland. I fondly recall my dad buying me half a shandy and feeling I’d stepped up in the world. I also played Space Invaders for the first time.
My favourite cities in the world are New York, Los Angeles and Prague; I love their busyness. I also love St James in Barbados for the peacefulness.
Cruising is a great way to visit destinations because it gives you a different view every day. I love how the inside of the cabin stays the same but the outside changes.
The vastness of Australia would be fantastic to behold; I haven’t had the chance to visit yet, but would love to. Seeing the Milky Way galaxy from the Southern Hemisphere would be amazing, too. Egypt’s on my wish list for its biblical history, as is the Arctic Circle, for the chance to see the Midnight Sun. I want to visit Idaho Falls in the US in 2017 to watch the total solar eclipse there. I’ve seen two solar eclipses at sea and I’d love to see one on land.
For my last holiday, I travelled to Crookhaven in southwest Cork and strolled by Mizen Head and visited the now ruined Mere Brow signal station where Marconi first sent radio signals to America. It’s a highly atmospheric and special place.
I always love returning to my hometown of Ormskirk,a market town in West Lancashire famous for its gingerbread. I’m very lucky to travel around a fair bit with my career and going home always brings a very happy perspective.
