Cruise International Awards judge and Cruise Today presenter, Jonathan Beaumont, talks to us about who he thinks should win in the Best Affordable Line category

Best Affordable Cruise Line Cruise International Awards 2012Vote now in the Cruise International Awards 2012 and you could win a holiday to Florida

Lets start with setting the record straight. Cruising isn’t expensive. In fact it’s one of the best value holidays you’re probably ever likely to take, and right now prices have never been so cheap thanks in part to a suffering economy. So instead of writing about who is affordable it’s more a case of who isn’t right now!

That said there is one cruise line who pride themselves on offering exceptional value cruises year round. Cruise & Maritime Voyages operate just two ships out of six UK ports and offer a traditional cruising experience. Destinations include the Amazon, the Baltics, Mediterranean and of course their very popular UK itineraries.

If its surf simulators, climbing walls and non-stop entertainment you’re after then a Cruise & Maritime Voyage won’t be for you, but if it’s good old fashioned cruising that’s affordable and elegant with plenty of character then hop on board!
The Marco Polo is the oldest of the two ships, over forty years in fact, but that’s really part of her charm and with on-going maintenance and refurbishment she puts some of the younger ships afloat to shame in the style stakes. The Ocean Countess is her sister ship and was formally the much loved Cunard Countess. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how comfortable and tastefully decorated both ships are. The Marco Polo in particular has high ceilings, beautiful teak decks and old fashioned steamer chairs.

The advantage to both being small ships is that you’ll get a more intimate cruising experience than the larger resort style ships and you’ll have the advantage of being able to visit remote ports of call that the bigger vessels can’t reach.

All in all, Cruise & Maritime offer the perfect cruise experience for travellers who like well organised, destination-intensive cruises with a touch of old style glamour at an affordable price.
