cruise holidayCruise lines have been offering donations and assistance to victims of Typhoon Haiyan and helping Filipino crew members return to their families in the Philippines.

The Royal Caribbean family of brands, including Azamara Club Cruises, is aiming to raise $1 million to support relief efforts in the Philippines and is matching employee and guest donations.

Royal Caribbean, along with Philippine Transmarine Carriers, Inc., have also sent an emergency team to the hardest-hit areas in order to help connect families and will set up a central communications point to assist crew attempting to make contact with family members.

Carnival Corporation, and its 10 cruise brands – including Carnival Cruise Lines, P&O Cruises and Princess Cruises – plus Carnival Foundation and Miami HEAT have grouped together and pledged to donate at least $1 million to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.

Miami HEAT owner Micky Arison, chair of Carnival Corporation & plc said:

“We are in the process of evaluating a variety of worthy organisations that are doing fantastic work in the Philippines. In addition to providing financial support for relief efforts, our collective thoughts and prayers are with all of those who have been impacted.”

Fred. Olsen Cruise Line is helping Filipino crew members return home and is sending a donation to its crewing agent in the region, Bahia Shipping, to help families in urgent need.

Mike Rodwell, Managing Director of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said:

“This is a very worrying time for many of our crew, with families in the Philippines, and we are offering them as much support as we can at this extremely difficult time.

“As a company, we want to do as much as possible to help those of our seafarers and their families who are most in need, and we are all very touched by the concern shown by so many of our guests for the crew and their loved ones.”

Cruise travel agent Iglu has teamed up with Cunard Line to auction an eight-night Transatlantic cruise for two on Queen Mary 2, departing on 15 December 2013, to raise money for the appeal (click here to learn more or place a bid).

Norwegian Cruise Line has set up a fund to help Filipino crew members, cheques made payable to Norwegian Cruise Line can be sent to: Norwegian Cruise Line – UK, Attention: Typhoon Haiyan Relief Fund, Horatio House, 77-85 Fulham Palace Road, Hammersmith, London, W68JA.
