Cruise International
Saga Pearl II

Inspired by BBC One’s period drama series War and Peace, Saga Cruises has a selection of itineraries to Russian cities including St Petersburg and Moscow, which feature in the six-part adaption of Leo Tolstoy’s epic novel.

A 10-night St Petersburg to Moscow river cruise on MS Surikov includes overnight moorings in both cities to give passengers time to explore the palaces and historic sights.

Departing between May and September, nine tours are included in the price, plus Russian language lessons, traditional dance and folklore classes, as guests sail along the Volga, Svir and Moscow Canal.

The eight-night Gems of the Russian Capitals cruise on the luxury 200-passenger MS Victoria, departing on 8 July 2016, includes St Petersburg and sailing on Russian waterways to Mandrogi, Kizhi Island, Yaroslavl, Uglich and Moscow.

Saga ocean cruise ships Saga Pearl II and Saga Sapphire each sail twice to the Baltic from Dover this summer, and all four cruises include time in St Petersburg, the city where some of the filming for the War and Peace series took place.

There are more than 15 tours to choose from, including the Hermitage Museum, Catherine Palace, the Faberge Museum, Peterhof Gardens and the chance to spend an evening at the theatre to watch a Russian ballet.

A 15-night Cities of the Baltic cruise starts from £2,849 and departs 6 May; a 14-night Baltic Capitals cruise starts from £2,899 and departs 4 August; the 14-night Voyage to the Baltic starts from £2,460 and departs 14 August; and the 15-night Best of the Baltic cruise starts from £3,173 and departs 8 September.
