Q. If I wanted a mix of city culture and outdoor activity on my cruise holiday, which destination should I choose?

A. Europe is the obvious destination for culture, with classic West and East Mediterranean cruises calling at Barcelona, Venice, Dubrovnik, Athens and Istanbul. Sail north to the Baltic and you’ll visit Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki as well as St Petersburg. Combine culture with outdoor activity by choosing a cruise with excursions to suit you. Royal Caribbean International has an Archipelago Speed Boat Adventure excursion in Helsinki and Norwegian Cruise Line has a Naples excursion with a visit to the ruins of Pompeii. River cruises on the Rhine often start in Amsterdam and take in Cologne while Danube cruises include stops in Vienna and Budapest. Choose a cruise line like Uniworld, with bicycles for passengers, and spend a morning on a walking tour then pedal along the towpath to meet your ship at the next mooring.
