Gozo, Malta

Gozo is known by many as Malta’s little brother, the second largest in the islands that make up the Maltese archipelago. It is also regarded as the island that time forgot and much less touristy than Malta. Once a British colony, Gozo’s capital is Victoria – although it is known to locals as Rabat – and it has a superb citadel overlooking the whole city. The city’s network of narrow lanes have lovely independent shops selling handmade goods such as knitted jumpers and artisan cheeses. Although many of the beaches are rocky, there is sand at San Blas a few miles from the cruise terminal.
P&O Cruises has an 18-night Mediterranean cruise on Oriana on 10 August, round trip from Southampton calling at Cadiz, the island of Gozo, Koper in Slovenia and Corfu, among other ports, from £1,299pp, based on two people sharing. Visit pocruises.com or call
