Uncover Southeast Asia’s gems on this Grand Asia cruise on board Princess Cruises’ new ship Majestic Princess, from £779pp*, cruise only. This 16-day cruise departs 25 February 2018 and sails from Shanghai to Singapore. Ports of call include Hakata, Busan, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok.

Majestic Princess is the newest addition to the Princess Cruises fleet and is a sister to Royal Princess and Regal Princess. The new ship will be based in China year-round and become the first vessel tailored specifically for Chinese guests incorporating a unique blend of international and Chinese features. It will be home-ported in Shanghai, carrying 3,560 guests for cruises to Japan and Korea, and will offer many of the special features that have made Royal Princess and Regal Princess so popular and distinctive.

These include a multi-story atrium serving as the social hub of the ship, the unique over-the-ocean SeaWalk (a glass-floor walkway extending 8 meters beyond the edge of the ship) and special Chef’s Table Lumiere (a private dining experience that surrounds guests in a curtain of light).

Conquered time and again by western armadas, Shanghai, where you embark on your cruise, continued to thrive as a port, trading in silk, tea, and opium. Today, it has a distinctively western flavour combined with its ancient past. Shanghai Museum is the Art and History Museum, China’s premier museum. The priceless collection here is fantastically displayed and includes rare bronzes, precious porcelain and paintings, 7,000-year-old pottery, and life-sized terra-cotta figures from the third century B.C.

Other sites of interest include Yu Yuan, gardens hidden behind high walls in the Old Quarter of Shanghai. Commissioned by a Ming Dynasty mandarin, Yu Yuan is an exquisitely harmonious ensemble of ponds, pavilions, artificial mountains, and ancient trees.
