Southampton based cruise line P&O Cruises officially opened a new healing garden at the Macmillan Cancer Information Centre at Southampton General Hospital on 8 July, thanks to the fundraising efforts of its passengers, crew and head office staff.

P&O Cruises’ Marketing Director, Christopher Edgington, said, “I am immensely proud on behalf of everyone at P&O Cruises who helped to make this healing garden a reality, and I am delighted that the money we raised has contributed to services right here in our local community, which is a truly fantastic legacy for everyone involved in our partnership.”

Rachel Gascoigne, Partnership Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, added, “Cancer treatment can be an exhausting and overwhelming time.

“Thanks to P&O Cruises, this garden has been transformed and is now a tranquil place where people can come to take time out and relax together.”

The partnership between P&O Cruises and Macmillan began in February 2013 and during this time P&O Cruises staff, crew and guests, both on shore and on the ships, have together raised an incredible £964,110 for the leading cancer charity.

The garden, which cost £25,000 to regenerate, is now a peaceful space that anyone visiting the Macmillan centre in Southampton can use and enjoy.
