Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall blew out the candles on a special 5th birthday cake aboard Queen Victoria in Southampton today, the Cunard ship she named in December 2007. Also with her was Maureen Ryan, one of Cunard’s longest-ever serving crew members who was the ‘madrina’ or sponsor at the ship’s float-out ceremony during construction.
Peter Shanks, Cunard’s President and Managing Director, said:
“We are delighted that Her Royal Highness joined us for such a special day in the life of the ship and her crew. Queen Victoria is very much The Duchess’ ship and we are honoured that she continues to display such an interest in the ship and her crew”.
