5. Caribbean sailing cruise

There’s a rather piratical feel as you sail, with no more than 11 other guests, on Diamant, from one paradise Caribbean isle to another. It’s the sails, and one of those bay windows at the back, like on a galleon, that does it. Diamant doesn’t look it but it is called a tall ship. It has a polished wood interior including cabins (definitely not staterooms), dining area and bar. Cruises depart most Fridays year-round and visit Carriacou, Union Island, Bequia, Tobago Cays and Mayreau.

A six-night cruise starts at $1,499pp (about £1,000pp) including beer, wine, rum punch and taxes but not flights (001 877 772 4549; islandwindjammers.com).
