In the recent cold weather I have been protecting and pampering myself with some winter beauty treats, perfect for cold days at home or for chilly temperatures abroad.

If you suffer from dry skin a real lifesaver is the Winter Facial Oil from de Mamiel (£60, www.demamiel.com). Truly luxurious, the de Mamiel range of treatments are designed to reduce the harsh impact of everyday life on the face by treating underlying conditions and creating balance and harmony within the body.

The collection features a facial oil for each season, and the new Winter Facial Oil, launched last December, is the first de Mamiel winter oil to contain flower essences, which are supposed to help create balance, calmness and clarity. It features Aloe Vera, Alpine Aster, Fig, Narsturtium, Rosemary and Silver Light.

All this not only works to completely eradicate dry skin and leave your face glowing and healthy-looking, the heavenly smell also makes it wonderful to put on first thing in the morning when it’s cold and dark outside, and helps to relax you when you’re getting ready for bed – an absolute winter essential. You simply smooth a few drops onto your face and neck, and breath deeply to take in the flower fragrances.

If the de Mamiel oil is a little out of your price range, I’m also a fan of Argan Skin Rescue, another facial oil that is handy for all sorts of conditions, from irritated or dry skin to scarring, acne, eczema and psoriasis (£18.95, stockists include www.nourishskinrange.com and Planet Organic). Use it all year round every evening to deeply nourish and brighten the complexion.

And if you’re out and about in the cold all day, make sure you put a tube of Lanolips 101 Ointment in your pocket (£11, available at www.victoriahealth.com and selected Waitrose and Boots stores). This lovely, luxuriously creamy ointment contains nothing but 100% Lanolin which literally melts between your fingers for intense moisture.

I use it on my lips, of course (mix it with lipstick for a moisturising and colourful gloss), but it’s also handy for dry cuticles and even for rubbing on a sore nose when you have a cold.

Lastly, for some serious pampering there’s nothing better than to lie back and relax in a hot bath scented with Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Muscle Bath & Shower Oil (£38, www.aromatherapyassociates.com). Perfect after a long day of walking or skiing or even a heavy gym session, a capful added to your bath creates soothing swirling scents of lavender, ginger and rosemary. You can literally feel any aches and pains melting away.
