Marco Pierre White on a P&O Cruise ship for a themed sailing with special cooking activities

Q. We’ve cruised a few times and are now looking for something different. Are there any cruise lines that offer themed sailings or special activities?

A. Cruise lines have traditionally offered mainstream diversions, such as ballroom dancing, photography or gardening, but now there’s virtually no limit to the scope and scale of themes they offer.

Today’s passengers can become amateur crime sleuths on murder-mystery sailings or reach for the stars on astronomy-themed cruises, while more daring guests can even join nude cruises or become zombies on Walker Stalker Walking Dead-themed sailings.

Even traditional themes have been given a modern makeover with cookery focuses featuring celebrity chefs on lines such as P&O Cruises, with classes in state-of-the-art show kitchens like those on Oceania Cruises.

Gastronomic voyages are also all the rage, along with wine appreciation sailings, like those offered on Celebrity Cruises and Silversea.

P&O Cruises ups the musical tempo with Strictly Come Dancing sailings, including dancers from the BBC show; while Princess Cruises features The Voice of the Ocean singing contest based around ITV’s The Voice.
