Celebrity chefs at sea 2015

By Becky Fantham | 8 Dec 2014

For 2015, some of the world’s best cruise ships will be treated to recipes from five gastronomic gurus including Jamie Oliver and Marco Pierre White

Jamie Oliver

Jamie Oliver

Jamie Oliver

CRUISE LINE: ROYAL CARIBBEAN
Twinkly-eyed Essex boy Jamie has campaigned against obesity and supported countless young chefs at his Fifteen restaurants, winning multiple awards.
Why we love him: Family man, food campaigner and all-round cheeky chappy, Jamie is one of Britain’s best-loved and hardest-working chefs.
Must-try dish: “Our meat plank features fennel salami, pistachio mortadella, prosciutto and schiacciata piccante.”

Jamie’s Italian will feature in two of Royal Caribbean’s innovative ‘smartships’: Quantum of the Seas, now sailing from New York, and Anthem of the Seas, opening spring 2015 and sailing from Southampton.

Marco Pierre White

CRUISE LINE: P&O CRUISES
Marco rocketed to stardom as the youngest chef to earn three Michelin stars (which he subsequently handed back).
Why we love him: Charismatic Marco still has the same magic in the kitchen as he had 25 years ago.
Must-try dish: “My Grilled Dover Sole Niçoise is a more refined version of a classic in its own right, giving the fish a Mediterranean twist while allowing its true flavour to shine through.”

Marco will be on board the following P&O ships: Oceana: 22 March–1 April, 2–16 September; Ventura: 6–20 May; Britannia: 30 May–13 June; Azura: 11–25 July, and Aurora: 28 July–12 August.

James Martin

JAMES-MARTIN-
CRUISE LINE: P&O CRUISES
When not roaring about the UK and Europe in a supercar, chef, TV presenter and petrolhead James is credited with taking Saturday Kitchen’s viewing figures to an incredible 3.5 million. Guests will be able to attend James’s masterclasses on board Britannia in The Cookery School, the first on board a British cruise ship, throughout 2015.
Why we love him: Approachable and popular, James is passionate about food.
Must-try dish: White chocolate and whisky croissant pudding with honeycomb foam and whisky ice cream: “Bucket-loads of butter and cream – it’s never been off my menu for 22 years and still is one of the biggest sellers.” See the recipe here.

James will be on board P&O Cruises’ Britannia on 17-20 March, 15-18 June, 6-9 July, 22-25 September and 9-13 October.

Eric Lanlard

Eric-Lanlard-Chef

CRUISE LINE: P&O CRUISES
Master Pâtissier and TV presenter Eric has written five cookbooks and is the owner of Cake Boy, a very popular cookery school, café and patissierie lounge in London. Brittany-born Eric has made cakes for everyone from Elton John to Her Majesty the Queen.
Why we love him: Gorgeous Eric loves chocolate, adores cocktails and is a big fan of old-school glamour in his cuisine.
Must-try dish: Raspberry and chocolate tart. “As well as the great combination of dark chocolate and raspberries, the addition of the chocolate shortcrust pastry gives a three-dimensional taste and texture to this yummy recipe.”

Eric is expected to be on board P&O’s Britannia on the following dates in 2015: 25-28 March, 27-30 May, 28 September-1 October and 23-27 October.

‘Nobu’ Matsuhisa

Nobu-Matsuhisa
CRUISE LINE: CRYSTAL
Taking inspiration from his travels, trail-blazing Master Chef Nobuyuki ‘Nobu’ Matsuhisa’s unique brand of gastronomy fuses classically styled Japanese foods with Peruvian and European influences. His cutting edge cuisine can be found in both Silk Road and The Sushi Bar on Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony.
Why we love him: Nobu is well known for being innovative and a rule-breaker.
Must-try dish: Black Cod with Miso: “Nobu style Saikyo Miso marinated and broiled black cod with lemon and hajikami.” See the recipe here.

About once every couple of years, Nobu pays a surprise visit to a Crystal ship and comes on board as executive chef, personally preparing dishes, mingling with the ship’s lucky guests and posing for pictures. Nobu personally trains all chefs in his speciality restaurants, designs all menus and schedules face-to-face ship visits every year in order to ensure that his food continues to impress.
