The largest cruise ship ever to be officially named in Hamburg launched in the city yesterday.
Michelle Morgan, president and CEO of Signature Travel Network, is Godmother of Celebrity Silhouette, the first travel industry executive to serve as Godmother of a Celebrity Cruises’ ship. The £500m new ship from cruise line Celebrity Cruises, Celebrity Silhouette measures in at over 315 metres long and will accommodate over 2,880 guests on its maiden voyage to Rome.
Celebrity Silhouette will set sail with its first paying guests onboard when it sets sail from Hamburg tomorrow (23 July). The ship will then offer a series of cruises throughout the Holy Land and eastern Mediterranean from Civitavecchia, near Rome.

Celebrity Silhouette has a number of new features, including the Lawn Club Grill – the cruise industry’s first outdoor interactive grill, The Hideaway – a high-tech tree house-like location for guests to relax inside, the Art Studio – a space where experienced and aspiring artists can participate in hands-on instruction from professionals and the Alcoves – private cabanas overlooking a real grass lawn on the top deck, offering its guests ultimate seclusion and complimentary amenities. Celebrity cruises has also announced the opening of a Bulgari boutique onboard its new ship, Celebrity Cruises’ Senior VP of Hotel Operations Lisa Lutoff-Perlo said: “Our guests tend to appreciate products that are luxurious and sophisticated, with a modern, contemporary flair, and Bulgari is renowned for consistently delivering that.”
The ship also features designer boutiques from brands such as Michael Kors, exclusive restaurants and an Apple dedicated internet café, the Celebrity iLounge, offering guests classes in using iPads and iPhones.
Later this year Celebrity Silhouette will sail to North America and offer cruises in the Caribbean throughout the winter from Cape Bayonne in New Jersey.
