Q. Where do you like to go on holiday?
It would be impossible to narrow down my favourite destination – I love travelling and exploring new places. Some of my favourite holidays have been in Mauritius, relaxing with family on white sandy beaches; or in Positano with friends, taking in the breathtaking views, delicious food and brilliant shopping.
Q. Where would you like to go next?
Japan is high up on my bucket list – I’d love to take the time to explore the sights and the culture, both in the cities and the rural areas.
I love the beach and being able to unwind in the sun; it definitely helps me to find my centre of gravity again when city life becomes a little too hectic.
Exercising on holiday may sound burdensome for some, but I find it meditative. It clears my head, helps me to focus and sets me up for whatever adventures we have planned for the day.
Q. What’s your must-pack item on holiday?
The item I couldn’t live without when I travel would definitely be books. There is something about reading on holiday
that makes it more relaxing than anywhere else. Also, making sure my iPhone is stocked up with some great getaway playlists is essential – music is always a must-have travel companion.
When it comes to a city break, I want to be inspired to explore and delve into the culture, so it’s always enticing to see glimpses of the city reflected in the artwork and some thoughtfully curated pieces.
Q. What inspired you to work with Celebrity Cruises on its latest ships?
A well-designed space should adapt to your mood throughout the day, from a terrace design that welcomes the light and brightens your morning to the sumptuous elegance of a cocktail bar that invites you to unwind when the sun goes down.
Working with Celebrity Cruises over the past few years has been an incredible journey, and some of the recent transformations are things we never would have imagined a decade ago.
The floating ‘Magic Carpet’ aboard Celebrity Apex was a radical innovation in cruise design, and with further advances in technology, there are increasingly few limitations to what is possible. The boundaries of luxury and our expectations of what travel offshore can offer have grown infinitely.
Q. What attracted you to cruise?
There’s something so exciting about undocking and feeling a real sense of adventure on the sea – the places you’ll explore, the people you may meet on board.
Whether it’s relaxing in the spa or dining in one of the divine restaurants, there really is something for everyone within the Celebrity fleet. I also find water to be such a calming presence, so being surrounded by it every day is blissful.
It has been such an exciting collaboration with Celebrity so far, and I think we share the same vision when it comes to redefining luxury sea travel and seeing where we can take it from here.
While I’ve always remained true to my signature style philosophy of balance, linearity and neutrals, cruise design has been a wonderful opportunity to branch out of the ordinary and really push my boundaries.
All of the spaces are designed with luxury and relaxation at their heart. It’s an opportunity for guests to quite literally sail away from the stresses of modern life, explore an alternative style of travel and the vast array of experiences that it has to offer, and ultimately to make unforgettable memories.
