Patsy Kensit, the popular actress and singer, tells us about her favourite destinations, her family holidays and her first cruise experience.
I went on my first cruise with my mum, dad and brother when I was about eight years old to the Caribbean. It was a beautiful huge liner, we ended the holiday by staying on the island of Guadeloupe. More recently I went on a stunning 10-day cruise around Turkey and Greece as a guest of Caprice Bourret. We sailed on the most gorgeous private yacht, it was like something out of Peter Pan. It was an amazing trip.
My last holiday was to Mallorca with my boys, James and Lennon. I used to go every year and we hadn’t been for about five years. We rented a lovely villa surrounded by wonderful lemon trees. It was super private, a mountain retreat, and we totally spoiled ourselves. We had a chef come in every day who cooked the most amazing lunches and dinners using local produce – lots of fish, delicious paella and sangria. I just love the food and the sunshine.
When I was a child we used to go to Cornwall a lot and Cala Mas Eda in Spain. It’s probably high rise hotels and English breakfast cafés now but when we went it was powder sandy beaches and no constructions, but we are talking about 45 years ago.
My favourite city is Rome, it’s somewhere I have visited many times over the years and I still love to walk around and get lost there. Every street has the most wonderful historical feel.
I’m dying to visit India as soon as I can, not least because I really love Indian food. I’m passionate about healthy living and eating.
A very special place to me is Chiva-Som in Thailand. I last went there with my sons – it’s my haven. It’s where I was introduced to meditation about nine years ago. My older son got a lot out of the experience whereas my younger son didn’t even unpack his bag and kept nipping down to the beach for a burger rather than having the healthy food on offer.
I read Scar by Anthony Kiedis when I was away and I couldn’t put it down. It’s a harrowing story but told with lots of grace. And he is also very cute, with his yoga body and now healthy lifestyle – not that I have ever met him but I’m a fan.
