Whether you yourself are departing on a Jubilee-themed cruise or you just want to know how cruise lines will be celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, here is everything you need to know about the Jubilee celebrations to come in the world of cruising
Fred Olsen’s royal celebration on board Balmoral
Suffolk-based Fred Olsen Cruise Lines is marking the Jubilee on its ‘royal’ ship, Balmoral, with a host of activities. They include corgi racing, Victoria sponge and Platinum Pudding contests between the onboard chefs, themed cooking demonstrations, royal trivia quizzes and a traditional take on a British afternoon tea.
Departures are available from Liverpool, Belfast and Newcastle on cruises visiting the Scottish islands and the Faroe Islands.
Thomas Rennesland, hotel operations director, said: “In keeping with the street parties taking place all over the UK, if you are sailing with us on the Thursday and Friday you can join us for a ‘street fayre’ out on deck, with live music, games and activities to enjoy.
“All of our ships will be adorned with Union Jack bunting and red, white and blue decorations and there will be special events aplenty for you to enjoy in the Jubilee spirit on board.
“You can dress to impress in your favourite red, white and blue outfits, join us for a rousing British singalong and wave your Union Jacks on British Night, which will include themed dinner menus and entertainment.”
A five-night Scenic Orkney and Shetland cruise departing Newcastle on June 1, 2022, on board Balmoral, starts at £749 per person with £50 to spend on board, or £100 for those booking a suite.
Ambassador Cruise Line’s Jubilee-themed cruise
Departing on 26 May 2022, Ambassador Cruise Line‘s Ambience will sail on the 12-night round Britain and Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration cruise that departs from London Tilbury and circumnavigates the British Isles, visiting the nations of the United Kingdom with regal experts.
Ports of call include the Isle of Skye, Belfast, Isles of Scilly and Kirkwall. If you’re the spontaneous type, there is still space on board!
Princess Cruises’ Jubilee celebrations onboard UK homeport ships
Between 2-5 June 2022 a series of activities to celebrate the milestone will take place onboard Princess Cruises‘ UK homeport ships – Sky Princess, Enchanted Princess, Emerald Princess, and Island Princess.
Live coverage of the following events will be shown on the ships’ 300-square foot ‘Movies Under the Stars’ screen: ‘Trooping of the Colour’; Thanksgiving Service at Westminster Abbey; Epsom Derby; Platinum Party at the Palace; and the Jubilee Party.
The onboard Piazzas will be decorated for the occasion with banners and buntings in the royal colours and guests will be encouraged to wear the royal red, white and blue for a special dress up night.
British-themed food and beverages will be served across the four days, including a ‘Royal Afternoon Tea’ with British favourites such as Victoria sponge cake; Pimms and strawberries served on top deck; and a ‘Royal Dinner’ menu.
In addition, an array of entertainment will take place exclusively on the 3,660-guest Sky Princess, including a ‘Royal Variety Show’ performed in the Princess Theatre, featuring an Elton John tribute; ‘Royal Trivia’ in Princess Live!; and a talk from guest speaker Grant Harrold, former butler of HRH, Prince of Wales.
Celebrity Cruises’ regal festivities
Celebrity Cruises is hosting a range of regal festivities on the 12-night Best of Scandinavia cruise, departing on 30th May from Southampton, onboard the recently ‘revolutionised’ Celebrity Silhouette.
The ship will sail to some of Europe’s most beautiful cities, including Tallinn and Stockholm. Guests will enjoy an overnight stay in Copenhagen, allowing more time to stroll around the Kronborg Castle – the setting of Shakespeare’s Hamlet – and experience hygge – the popular concept of gentle, soothing cosiness, and comfort that’s infused in Danish lifestyle and culture.
Onboard, guests of all ages will be able to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee weekend in all of its glory. Indulge in the tastes of Britain while soaking in the stunning views of Eastern Europe with a quintessentially British afternoon tea and slices of the official Platinum Jubilee Pudding itself (lemon and swiss roll amaretti trifle). Silhouette will also host its very own proms featuring an orchestra and string duo, as well as a ‘Silhouette Street Party’ with iconic British tunes, and a toast from the captain.
