Cruise Launches in 2013 and beyond
Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway
April 2013 and April 2014
Norwegian Cruise Line has revealed the ship names for its two new ‘Project Breakaway’ vessels which will launch in 2013 and 2014. The Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway will feature accommodations designed specifically for families, spa enthusiasts and solo travellers, and the ships will see the return of oceanview staterooms, some of which will have five berths.
The two new ships were named following a national naming competition with USA Today in the US receiving over 230,000 entries, and Norwegian felt these names best reflected the innovation of the brand along with the freedom and flexibility of the line’s signature Freestyle Cruising.
Compagnie du Ponant
Compagnie du Ponant’s new build will be identical to the twin ships Le Boréal and L’Austral; and will be the third ship the line has launched in the last three years.
Jean-Emmanuel Sauvée, Compagnie du Ponant’s managing director, says: “following fast on the success of introducing our sleek super yachts Le Boréal and L’Austral and their acceptance in the international arena, we are committed to progressing our business development plan and philosophy to create exceptional, state-of-the-art ships, perpetuating the yachting spirit of our fleet.
“We will continue to fulfil our promise to guests of offering unique itineraries, dream locations off the beaten track, new cultures and close encounters with the wonders of nature – these privileges are on offer thanks to the small size and technical capabilities of the vessels belonging to Compagnie du Ponant.”
A new Princess ship is due to be launched in 2014. As yet unnamed, it will be the same size as its sister ship Royal Princess.
P&O Cruises will expand its fleet with a 141,000-tonne cruise ship in 2014. The as-yet-unnamed 3,611-passenger vessel will be the largest in the P&O Cruises fleet, as well as the largest cruise ship built specifically for the British market.
