Scenic has announced Dame Darcey Bussell will join its 14-night Cultural Heritage of Russia river cruise in May, entertaining guests with an exclusive talk and Q&A session.

Russia is a country of wonderful cultural heritage with a rich history of dance. I’m very much looking forward to sharing my stories and experiences of dancing with the Kirov Ballet in its home city, St Petersburg,” said Dame Darcey.

Joining guests on board Scenic Tsar in St Petersburg, the retired ballerina and Strictly Come Dancing judge will share insights from her career while in conversation with dance critic Mark Monahan.

Ballet fans on board the limited-edition cruise will also be treated to a St Petersburg private ballet performance as part of the cruise line’s Scenic Enrich offerings, and a signed photograph of Dame Darcey.

The former dancer is not the only special guest spending time with guests on the sailing; Russian correspondent Alex Luhn joins the trip in Moscow, the final port of call on the itinerary, to share his first-hand stories of the country’s political movements and social history.

Departing on 26 May, the cruise begins in St Petersburg, where guests will be able to explore sights in the city, such as Catherine’s Block, Peterhof Grand Palace and St Issac’s Cathedral, alongside spending time with Bussell on board the ship.

After departing St Petersburg, Scenic Tsar will follow the Mother Volga through Russia, stopping at Mandrogi, Kizhi Island and Goritsy before entering the Golden Ring.

Here, the ancient cities of Yaroslavl and Uglich can be explored before the ship reaches its final port of call in the heart of the Russian capital. Red Square and St Basil’s Cathedral, as well as the Kremlin, are among the attractions that can be visited by guests in Moscow.

There is a Scenic Enrich invitation to discover the Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics, too.

Included in the Cultural Heritage of Russia trip are flights from a range of UK airports, 14 nights’ accommodation, all meals and complimentary beer, wine and soft drinks with on-board lunches and dinners, all excursions, tips and gratuities, laundry service, and talks and events with special guests.
