Q. My partner and I are considering a cruise holiday for our honeymoon – but will we get any privacy?
A. Cruises can be ideal for honeymoons and romantic getaways…think dinner on deck under the stars, or the thrill of discovering new destinations together without any travel hassles to contend with. You will, of course, be cruising with lots of other passengers, so here are a few tips to ensure your time together is extra special.
First and foremost, treat yourselves to the best cabin you can afford; a stateroom with a balcony is lovely for pre-dinner drinks or a quiet breakfast, and if your budget allows then even consider a suite. The benefits vary between different cruise lines, but can include priority embarkation and disembarkation, a designated suites-only restaurant, or even a butler to cater for your every whim. Make sure the maître d’ knows you’re on honeymoon so he can reserve a table for two at dinner (book this before you sail if you can), or try the speciality restaurants on board where there are always more options for dining à deux.
Look into what honeymoon packages are on offer and check out lines such as Carnival, Princess Cruises and Royal Caribbean who offer amenities like secluded hot tubs, adults-only sun decks and double hammocks or sunbeds. Make sure to book early for a couple’s massage in the ship’s spa to enjoy some joint chill-out time, and tell your cabin steward you’re on honeymoon for a spectacular turn-down service.
