Q. I love to exercise while I’m on holiday – how can I keep fit on board a cruise ship?

A. Virtually every ocean cruise ship has a gym, ranging from modest rooms like the gym on Saga Cruises’ Saga Sapphire to the huge state-of-the-art facilities on Norwegian Cruise Line’s 4,000-passenger Breakaway, where you can also take Flywheel classes to heart-pumping music. Many other big ships, like those in Royal Caribbean International’s fleet, have sports courts for football and basketball. If you don’t like gyms there are other ways to keep fit. You can always take a brisk walk on the promenade deck – three times around Cunard’s Queen Mary is a mile. Some smaller ships have mountain bikes. SeaDream take guests on free cycle tours and energetic passengers on AmaWaterways’ river cruise ships have been known to cycle along the river bank to the ship’s next mooring.
