Veganuary: 7 of the best cruises for vegans & vegetarians
By Claire Benktander | 10 Jan 2022
Most cruise lines are known for catering to all dietary requirements – but which ships, cruises and cruise lines are the most vegetarian and vegan-friendly?
Many cruise lines are becoming more and more focused on providing appealing options for vegans, and while these seven cruises are excellent for both vegetarians and vegans, it’s always good to alert the catering department in advance and meet with the head chef or maitre d’ when you board to discuss whether you will require menu items to be further customised.
To mark Veganuary, we round up seven of the very best cruises for vegans and vegetarians to book now for this year or next.
7 of the best cruises for vegans & vegetarians
Oceania Cruises’ Riviera
Oceania Cruises offer one of cruise travel’s best vegan options, with vibrant new plant-based menus on board Riviera.
The menus are set to appear fleet-wide by August – as well as some of the only cold-pressed raw juice and vegan smoothie bars at sea on both Marina and Riviera.
Regent Seven Seas Cruises
Regent Seven Seas Cruises offers entirely vegan menus, including vegan cookies, ice cream and teatime selections across its fleet.
Guests can choose from more than 200 gourmet plant-based selections, from wild mushroom tart to Hawaiian poke bowls, as well as a special Canyon Ranch menu – in collaboration with the onboard spa of the same name – for passengers focussed on their health and wellness.
SeaDream Yacht Club
Board SeaDream Yacht Club‘s SeaDream I and SeaDream II and you’ll find a special raw-food menu of organic meals that cater to every vegetarian and vegan.
The first of its kind at sea, SeaDream’s gourmet cuisine is offered as part of a five-star ‘Living Food’ menu, with delicious raw vegan options alongside its regular menus.
Holland America Line
The luxurious Holland America Line has several designated vegan options within its vegetarian menu. Head chef Rudi Sodamin has designed an exclusive 22-dish vegetarian and vegan menu – available across all ships – that highlights vegetables and other naturally healthy ingredients, at no extra cost.
Think strawberry and bocconcini bruschetta, spicy lentil and garbanzo salad and baked cheese polenta, while vegan delights include Vietnamese spring rolls and pad Thai noodles.
Disney Cruises Line’s Disney Wish
Disney Cruise Line features a good selection of vegan meals on all its ships, but new ship Disney Wish – set to launch in summer 2022 – will offer a fully vegan menu at no extra cost, in a move to be more inclusive than ever to all guests.
Enjoy ready-made, vegan-friendly menus in many of the ship’s whimsical restaurants, with themes like Frozen and Marvel, in fun-focused vegan and vegetarian dining experiences for all the family.
Luxury cruise line Silversea caters to each and every vegan and vegetarian onboard with a unique array of dishes and a wide variety of vegetables and fruit, nuts, grains, plant based proteins alongside dairy alternatives such as tofu, soy milk, vegetable drinks, seitan and plant based recipes carefully balance in nutrients encompassed within the line’s famed Culinary Voyages menu.
Simply tell Silversea in advance of your cruise then, upon embarkation, you’ll then be encouraged to meet with the ship’s executive chef upon boarding to ensure a perfect culinary experience.
Royal Caribbean offers a separate vegan menu that’s different every night for dinner in the main dining room, available upon request.
Going far beyond simple veggie and vegan dishes, Royal Caribbean offers unique menus and interesting dishes for all diners like a caramelised parsnip and coconut soup. Plus, there are a wealth of vegetarian and vegan options across their cafes and pizzerias, too.
