Q. I understand cruise lines cater to all dietary requirements but which ships have the best vegan options?

A. Many cruise lines are becoming more focused on providing appealing options for vegans. However, it’s still important to alert the catering department in advance about your dietary needs, and when you board it’s also a good idea to meet with the head chef and/or maitre d’ to discuss whether you will require menu items to be further customised.

The ships currently offering the best vegan options are Oceania Cruises, which recently announced the debut of its extensive onboard vegan menus (available fleetwide on the brand’s six ships) and the only cold-pressed raw juice and vegan smoothie bars at sea on both Marina and Riviera.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises (the sister line to Oceania) also offers entire vegan menus, including vegan cookies, ice cream and teatime selections. SeaDream Yacht Club has a special raw-food menu, and Holland America Line has designated vegan options within its vegetarian menu. Disney Cruise Line features a good selection of vegan meals on all its ships, Princess Cruises will modify dishes to vegan on request and the executive chef on board Silversea Cruises is happy to create a bespoke menu for your voyage.
