Crystal Cruises has a new year’s resolution: to take more social responsibility and support the destinations it visits.
The six-star luxury cruise company has planned a “You Care, We Care” programme, which will offer both guests and crew the opportunity to help out with charitable projects in the destinations they visit during a Crystal Cruise.
The aim is that participants will enjoy immersing themselves in the local community and gain some rewarding experiences, and that local projects will benefit from their help.
The programme is still being developed, but there are plans for one “You Care, We Care” volunteering opportunity on every 2011 itinerary,
Opportunities so far include participating in arts and crafts with children at a burn rehabilitation centre in Peru, helping out with some urban farming in Columbia, and joining in with a beach and neighbourhood clean-up in Mexico.
“We challenged our worldwide tour operators to craft excursions that contribute to local causes because we are absolutely committed to giving something back to the communities we visit and explore,” said Crystal Cruises’ Vice President International, Philip Ordever
“We also recognise the growing desire of our guests to seek out and discover authentic, enriching experiences and believe this new initiative will make a difference to both our destinations and our overall guest experience,” he said.
