Hundreds of pictures were sent in by readers anxious to win Best Photo in last year’s first-ever Cruise Awards. It’s fair to say the judges – who don’t get a say in the other categories which are decided by public vote – had some difficulty picking the winner.

Last year’s winner of MSC Armonia, taken by Henrietta Sali

There were picture postcard views, several shots of passengers enjoying life (and breakfast) on their balconies, a surprising number of lobster dinners, and even more of you dressed up like dogs’ dinners. Sunsets are always a popular subject and it was this one, submitted by Henrietta Sali, which took the top prize.

One reason it succeeded is because there is no doubt the photo was taken on a cruise; on MSC Armonia as a matter of fact (see right). If you’re entering the competition this year, remember it’s best to choose shots that are obviously cruise-related.

It’s all very well having the perfect picture of Portofino harbour, a fantastic photograph of the fjords, or a superb shot of Santorini, but remember this is the Cruise Awards; try to include something in the frame that makes it clear your entry was taken on a ship or during a voyage.

There’s no limit to the number of entries you can submit. This year we’ll be accepting video clips as well, but please keep them short – this is not the place for a two-hour documentary on your world voyage.

Happy snapping, and good luck !
