Grammy award-winning artist Kelly Clarkson has been named by Norwegian Cruise Lines as godmother to its newest ship, Norwegian Encore.

“We knew we wanted someone who represents our core values,” said Andy Stuart, president and chief executive officer at Norwegian Cruise Lines.

“Kelly is a role model who is passionate about family and community, as well as music and entertainment. These are our passions too!

“We are honoured to have her join our family of godparents and look forward to celebrating Norwegian Encore’s debut in Miami with her, this November.”

Andy Stuart invited Kelly Clarkson to join the cruise line as a godmother when he appeared on her new daytime TV show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, which premiered yesterday.

The American singer-songwriter turned TV host will now perform at Norwegian Encore’s christening ceremony in Miami on 21 November, as well as fulfilling the maritime tradition of blessing and officially naming the ship.

Kelly Clarkson said: “I am so honoured to be named the godmother to Norwegian Encore, and to be a part of such a special ceremony to christen the new ship in Miami.

“I believe that surrounding yourself with the ones you love and taking time for them is important while having the most amazing and unforgettable vacation, which is what Norwegian Cruise Lines stands for and provides for its guests.”

When Norwegian Encore launches in the autumn, it will feature many exciting new features, such as the world’s longest racetrack at sea with four high-speed curves extending up to 13 feet over the side of the ship.

This is alongside an outdoor tag arena and a new immersive escape room and interactive experiences in the Galaxy Pavilion.

There will also be many of the restaurants and lounges found on board other ships in the Breakaway Plus class (including Norwegian Joy and Norwegian Bliss), as well as a brand-new Italian dining experience, Onda by Scarpetta.

Meanwhile, the entertainment on board will be headlined by Kinky Boots with returning guest favourites The Choir of Man and Happy Hour Prohibition: The Musical.

Norwegian Encore will offer seven-day voyages to the Eastern Caribbean from Miami beginning in November, and Canada and New England itineraries from New York beginning in April 2020.
