MSC Cruises has taken delivery of new ship MSC Bellissima at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint Nazaire, France.
The line’s 16th ship was blessed at the delivery ceremony by Ella Aponte, granddaughter of Gianluigi Aponte, MSC Cruises‘ Founder and Chairman, before setting sail to Southampton where it will be officially named by legendary Italian film star Sophia Loren, the vessel’s godmother, on Saturday evening.
MSC Cruises’ virtual personal cruise assistant Zoe is set to launch on MSC Bellissima ahead of the naming ceremony.
The ship is now on its way to Southampton, arriving Friday morning ahead of Saturday’s ceremony. On March 4 the ship will depart on its maiden voyage, heading to Genoa, Italy, where it will spend its inaugural season, offering Western Mediterranean cruises.
In November 2019, it will reposition to the Gulf, with weekly sailings out of Dubai. In spring 2020 MSC Bellissima will be deployed to Asia.
