Princess Cruises has revealed details of new ship Majestic Princess which will make its debut in 2017.
“Royal Princess and Regal Princess were named after iconic previous vessels, while Majestic Princess will carry a name that was chosen by our global employees,” said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises.
“The name Majestic Princess is well suited to the Princess Cruises experience in China, and she will offer a truly magnificent experience to our Chinese guests,” added Swartz.
Befitting the ship’s dedication to the Chinese market, Majestic Princess will also carry a Chinese name on the hull, 盛世公主号 (Shèng Shì Gōng Zhǔ Haò) – an interpretation selected by Carnival plc’s China employees, which has the suggestive meaning of “Grand World” or “Grand Spirit.”
The new ship will be homeported in Shanghai, China year-round beginning in summer 2017, sailing to Japan and Korea, and become the first vessel built specifically for Chinese guests incorporating a unique blend of international and Chinese features.
The 143,000-ton vessel, which is being built at an all-in cost of approximately 600 million euros at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, will carry 3,560 passengers, and feature the successful contemporary design as sister ships Royal Princess and Regal Princess.
Majestic Princess will include the signature elements that have become synonymous with the Princess Cruises guest experience such as a central atrium hub with multiple dining, entertainment and retail venues; the adults-only Sanctuary; Movies Under the Stars cinema experience, and 80 percent of all staterooms with balconies. The ship will also include some brand-new innovations to enhance the guest experience even further.
The Chinese market continues to attract cruise lines with Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas enjoying tremendous success in China.
Princess Cruises won three awards at this year’s Cruise International Awards including Best Cruise Line.
