Ambassador for the Royal Caribbean Runners programme, Sally Gunnell, OBE, tells us about her favourite places and meeting The Queen
What’s your favourite place in the world?
There are so many, I would say I’m very happy on a white beach with a blue sea and a wooden jetty where I can sit and have a cocktail while watching the sun go down. I love Florida and the Maldives.
If you could be anywhere right now where would you be?
A country I’m constantly intrigued by is Africa – I went to Rwanda to do charity work, I’ve been on safari and I’ve trained down there. Every time I go it’s a new experience, a new culture – I really get excited by it.
What’s your favourite food when travelling?
I always end up having fresh fish, I love it in Britain but I never have it quite as much as I do on holiday – I always find a good fish restaurant.
When you were growing up who was your favourite sports star?
Daley Thompson, I used to go and watch him at Crystal Palace and follow him on TV.
Who is the most famous person you have ever met?
This has to be The Queen. I was invited to a dinner and there were just 12 of us around the dining table. It was quite a scary experience for me in my late twenties but I was surprised by how relaxed she was. The dogs were walking around and it made you feel very comfortable.
