Naming ceremony on 5 November by The Love Boat cast will begin Princess Cruises’ 50th anniversary celebrations

The naming ceremony of Princess Cruises’ newest ship, Regal Princess will take place on 5 November in Florida by the original cast of the hit US TV series The Love Boat.

The ceremony marks the beginning of celebrations for Princess Cruises’ 50th anniversary which will see each ship in the fleet sailing with a 50th anniversary flag on its bow.

Commemorative food, drink and entertainment will be offered on all its ships throughout 2015 to celebrate its anniversary.

All cruises will include a souvenir menu in the main dining rooms for one night, while two new desserts have been created by the line’s master chocolatier, Norman Love.

Classic drinks and cocktails will be served as well as the ‘Seawitch West Coast IPA’ craft beer, brewed exclusively for the anniversary.

There will be quizzes, tribute acts and deck parties, which will be themed on The Love Boat, which ran for ten seasons from 1977-1987 and was mostly set on board Princess Cruises’ ships. The show is credited with assisting the expansion of both the line and the cruise industry as a whole.

Paul Ludlow, Princess Cruises’ managing director UK and Europe, said: “Princess Cruises has gone from strength-to-strength during the past 50 years and we’re eagerly anticipating the Golden Anniversary. It’s going to be incredibly exciting on board and we hope that past and new guests alike will join us to raise a glass, or two, in celebration.”
