Luxury ocean cruise line Regent Seven Seas Cruises has taken delivery of its fifth ship, Seven Seas Splendor.

Jason Montague, president and chief executive officer of Regent Seven Seas Cruises, said: “Wherever you turn on Seven Seas Splendor, you will be surrounded by elegance, comfort and hospitality.”

“Luxury travellers have anticipated this stunning new ship for more than two years. The day she opened for reservations was the busiest booking day in our company’s history.”

Seven Seas Splendor, for 750 guests, was delivered at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Ancona, Italy. It features 375 all-balcony suites as well as five restaurants, a $5m curated art collection and more than 500 chandeliers.

Other highlights include a Culinary Arts Kitchen for hands-on cooking demos and the launch of the new spa brand, Serene Spa & Wellness.

“We thank the talented team at Fincantieri for collaborating with Regent to achieve our ambitious vision of creating the ship that perfects luxury. Seven Seas Splendor demonstrates how Regent continues to deliver An Unrivaled Experience for guests across our fleet,” adds Montague.

Captain Serena Melani will take the helm of Seven Seas Splendor. This will make her the first female captain to take charge of a brand new ocean cruise ship.

Melani and her crew begin work on 6 February when the ship sails its first official voyage. It travels from Barcelona to Miami in time for its christening on 21 February.

Supermodel Christine Brinkley has been confirmed as the ship’s godmother and will attend the ceremony in Port Miami.

Following its christening, Seven Seas Splendor will cruise the Caribbean and Mexican Riviera. This includes two crossings of the Panama Canal and one Southern Caribbean cruise from Miami to New York City.

In the spring, Seven Seas Splendor will traverse the Atlantic Ocean once more for its inaugural European season in the Mediterranean.
