Silversea Cruises held a naming ceremony for latest ship Silver Dawn, the first to feature indulgent spa range Otium

Ultra-luxury cruise line Silversea Cruises has welcomed a 10th vessel to its fleet at a christening ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal.

Silver Dawn is the third ship the line has launched in the past nine months, following the debut of Silver Moon in Greece and Silver Origin in the Galapagos Islands.

It is also the first in the fleet to feature new spa programme Otium, which promises to be the most indulgent wellness experience at sea, combining spa treatments with chocolate, cocktails and champagne.

The ceremony featured a bagpipe performance, a religious blessing and the traditional smashing of the champagne bottle on the ship’s hull by godmother Nilou Motamed, an Iranian-born food and travel editor and judge on US TV series Top Chef.

Jason Liberty, president and chief executive of Silversea parent company Royal Caribbean Group, said: “Celebrating the naming of Silver Dawn in Lisbon marked an incredibly proud moment for all involved. I thank and congratulate Roberto Martinoli and our entire team, including Captain Failla and the crew, as well as everyone at Fincantieri, our shipbuilding partners.

Silver Dawn is a jewel in the Silversea fleet and speaks to Royal Caribbean Group’s commitment to delivering the best vacation experiences in a responsible way.”

The onboard spa has been redesigned from sister ships Silver Moon and Silver Muse and features new wellness concept Otium, which focuses on indulgence champagne, chocolate, signature cocktails and in-suite relaxation experiences. The ship also features food programme Salt, which celebrates the flavours of the region through which the ship is sailing with onboard menus at a dedicated restaurant and cocktail bar, through cooking classes and onshore excursions.

Roberto Martinoli, president and chief executive of Silversea Cruises, said: “An evolution of our unique take on luxury, Silver Dawn is the third Silversea ship to be named in the last nine months.

“As well as Salt, our immersive culinary programme, Silver Dawn enriches guests’ travels with Otium, our indulgent new wellness programme, which is inspired by the ancient Roman lifestyle. She really is magnificent.

“I extend my gratitude to Jason Liberty and all involved at Royal Caribbean Group, as well as to the team at Silversea, Fincantieri, and Captain Failla and his crew – our most valuable asset. Moreover, I proudly welcome Nilou Motamed as the godmother of Silver Dawn.”

Silver Dawn’s inaugural voyage departed on April 1 from Lisbon to Barcelona, and the ship is scheduled to be in the Mediterranean until November, before transferring to the Caribbean and Central America.
