P&O Cruises has added stage show Greatest Days to the entertainment line-up on its new Caribbean-based ship

P&O Cruises has announced musical Greatest Days – The Official Take That Musical will be performed on new Barbados-based ship Arvia when it launches in December.

The show is an adaptation of West End musical The Band and features hit songs from Take That along with a story created by award-winning writer Tim Firth.

It comes in advance of a film version of the same show, which is being produced by band members Gary Barlow, Robbie Williams, Mark Owen and Howard Donald.

The members of Take That said in a statement: “Almost 10 years ago, we had the idea of writing a musical with our songs. It was a big wish of ours to make a show with Take That’s music, but without us – not the story of our lives.

“Our wishes came true and five years ago we debuted The Band Musical to the world. Now we couldn’t be prouder to bring the story to P&O Cruises under its new name – Greatest Days.

“In Tim Firth we found an author who invented a completely different and wonderful story to which our music makes the perfect frame. A story with a lot of heart and friendship. A musical that shows how music brings friends together. The story works so wonderfully, you don’t even have to know our music!”

The storyline follows five 16-year-old girls who become fans of the boy band in 1993, then catches up with them 25 years later as they reunite and try to realise their dream of meeting their idols.

The line has already announced a series of performances by Gary Barlow on sister ship Iona, taking place this autumn.

P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow said: “We are delighted to have worked so closely with Take That to bring this fantastic story to the stage on board Arvia, exclusively for our guests.

“With an amazing cast, handpicked from our Headliners Theatre performers, guests can look forward to a night of world-class entertainment to create a truly unique and extraordinary theatre experience.”

The musical will be available on itineraries including Arvia’s maiden voyage in the Canary Islands, departing on December 9, 2022, and on seven and 14-night Caribbean cruises this winter.
