Looking for a different kind of cruise holiday experience? Nick Dalton selects 10 of the most interesting ships around

1. Croatia island hopping

Adriatic Queen is one of many ships carrying 25 passengers flitting around Croatia’s isles and craggy mainland – any bigger and they get taxed at a higher rate, so the locals keep them small. The cabins, no two alike as they’re shoehorned in, are simple; a few open on to deck, most have portholes. But it’s great fun with two big, open-air dining tables, a small bar and sun loungers. The ship gets to the heart of the region, docking at the yacht (and beautiful people) -festooned quayside in Hvar, in front of the market in Split, and outside Korcula’s little supermarket.

The eight-day escorted Dubrovnik and the Dalmatian Isles cruise, costs from £1,045pp, including flights, excursions and Titan’s VIP home departure service (0800 988 5858; titantravel.co.uk).
