8. Turkish gulet cruise

These traditional Turkish twin-masted wooden sailing ships are the Next Big Thing. Each carries about 16 passengers, has a little shaded deck covered in rugs and cushions, and meals are served under the stars.

Thomson Cruises travel between Marmaris and Fethiye, calling at the islands of Kizil, Yassica and Tersane as well as other beauty spots. Titan’s gulet (new for 2014) heads to Fethiye and back, calling at the Iztuzu Beach at Dalyan River, goes dolphin spotting off Cape Disibilmez and makes regular stops for swimming and snorkelling.

Titan’s eight-day escorted Turkish Gulet cruise, departs six times from May to June, and September to October, and costs from £995pp, with flights, excursions and VIP home departure service (0800 988 5858; titantravel.co.uk). Thomson’s seven-night Caunos cruise departs regularly from 14 May, from £369pp, including flights (0871 230 2555; thomson.co.uk).
