The Viking Cruises Wellness Garden at Chelsea Flower Show 2018 has been awarded a gold medal
The beautiful and exceptionally peaceful garden, designed by Gloucestershire garden designer Paul Hervey-Brookes, is based on the connection between nature and wellbeing.
“The Viking Cruises Wellness Garden really is about living in balance” says Paul.
Scandinavian culture is clearly reflected throughout, as Paul explains, “All of the plants in the Viking Cruises Garden are either native or naturalised to Scandinavia so they appear in a very long line of medicinal uses.” He continues, “here you’ll see plants that would have been introduced by the Vikings.”
The plunge pool and a sauna reinforce the Scandinavian style, and culture of detoxification, rejuvenation and mindfulness.
Perhaps the biggest star of the show is the amazing 120-year-old mulberry tree that perfectly blends into the trees that stand behind the garden and adds a sense of history to the creation.
“To me it resonates the landscape of Scandinavia, this kind of element of timelessness. For me that’s the joy of creating gardens. That you can lift somebody from the everyday and you can bring them back to something that makes them feel good or in balance.
He concludes, “all of that is at the core of Viking Cruises and what we’ve really done is taken the essence of Scandinavia and created a garden that marries all of that together.”
