Viking announces new dates for Mississippi River cruises

By Ruby Norris | 3 Jul 2020

Viking has announced the early of release of additional Mississippi River cruises for 2023, due to growing demand.

At a time when we could all do with a bit of happy news, Viking has announced additional sailings for the new Mississippi River Cruises in 2023.

Speaking about the decision to release these new dates early, Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking, says: “We are very pleased at the initial response and support we have received from guests and community partners along the Mississippi River.

“Like me, many travellers are planning ahead for when we will once again be exploring the world in comfort – to exotic destinations as well as those closer to home. We look forward to welcoming guests as we bring modern river cruising to the Mississippi River in 2022.”

In April, the cruise line announced the launch of all-new Viking Mississippi river cruise further expanding their roster of destination-focused travel experiences and launching Viking’s first river cruises in the U.S. Several sailings have already sold out and the strong demand for more river cruises has led to Viking announcing the additional 2023 sailing dates sooner than expected.

The new Viking Mississippi River cruise will debut in August 2022 and will also see the company’s first custom-built vessel, Viking Mississippi, take voyage.

“At a time where many of us are at home, looking for inspiration to travel in the future, I am pleased to introduce a new, modern way to explore this great river,” said Mr Hagen of the new Viking Mississippi.

“We invented the concept of modern river cruising when we got our start 23 years ago—first on the rivers of Russia and then in Europe. Since then, many people have come to appreciate the unique exploration that comes with river cruising—but currently there are very few options to do so on American rivers.

“Our guests are curious travellers, and they continue to tell us that the Mississippi is the river they most want to sail with us. No other waterway has played such an important role in America’s history, commerce and culture.”
