The Viking Cruises Lagom Garden, designed by Will Williams and sponsored by the cruise line, has been awarded a gold medal at the 2019 RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival.
Wendy Atkin-Smith, managing director of Viking Cruises UK, said: “We are thrilled to have achieved a gold medal-winning garden at the Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival.
“Viking strives for excellence in everything we do and we know how close gardening is to the heart of all our guests so this recognition means a lot to us.”
It is the fourth year Viking has been the festival’s headline sponsor, but it is the first time the cruise line has worked with Will Williams.
For Viking’s gold-medal winning garden, Williams took inspiration from the Scandinavian idea of ‘Lagom’, which means not too much, not too little.
Reflecting this notion of perfect balance, he has created a garden where nature meets contemporary design. It is a space where wildlife can live and thrive in harmony with people, as well as being a functional garden for everyone to enjoy.
The garden also showcases clever ways to make the most of small spaces, offering an immersive experience for visitors.
This follows Viking’s lead as the cruise line is expert at making the most of small spaces throughout their ships.
“I am thrilled to have achieved a gold medal for my first show at Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival. It has been a great honour to work with Viking – the headline sponsor that is known for its passion for excellence,” said Williams.
Atkin-Smith adds: “At Viking, we share RHS’ passion for innovation, creativity and inspiration so we are delighted to be supporting the Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival again for the fourth year.
“We believe inspiring designs can be found anywhere, sometimes where you least expect it, and that good design is integral to good living.”
RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival 2019 is open from 2 to 7 July.
