Virgin Voyages has announced Mark Ronson will curate the onboard music and entertainment line-up for its inaugural sailings on board Scarlet Lady in 2020.
“I’m thrilled to be part of the Virgin Voyages’ Creative Collective, helping lead the charge in music. Sir Richard Branson and the Virgin brand were legendary game-changers in the music industry and it’s a thrill to join them as they bring that same spirit to sea travel,” said Ronson.
Taking on the role of ‘minister of music’, the award-winning artist and producer will create a series of pre-voyage and onboard playlists for guests, and curate the vinyl record selection in the RockStar Suites and the ship’s vinyl and music shop, Voyage Vinyl.
He will also work with Virgin Voyages’ music teams to define the brand’s sound at sea and in The Beach Club, a private and luxurious beach club in Bimini used exclusively by Virgin Voyages guests when Scarlet Lady is docked on the island.
Ronson has committed to four performances in 2020 at The Beach Club as part the cruise line’s On Deck residency programme. The artist’s 9 July set can only be experienced by those who book the 5 July 2020 Mayan Sol sailing.
As part of the collaboration, he will join the company’s Creative Collective, a group of world-class tastemakers, artists and designers.
Another world-class act on the On Deck residency programme at The Beach Club is DJ and record producer Diplo.
The mood at The Beach Club will be carefully curated so guests of Virgin Voyages have the chance to experience moments of relaxation as well as high-energy excitement. These range from morning yoga and meditation sessions to DJ-led pool and floatilla parties in the afternoon.
Details have been released too on the company’s Scarlet Night – a signature on board party for Scarlet Lady guests featuring ground-breaking music, art installations and live performances.
Before the cruise ship makes its way to its new permanent home in Miami, it will undertake a tour of the UK in February 2020. Stopping in Dover and Liverpool, Scarlet Lady will open its doors for a number of exclusive events. The news was announced by Spice Girl Geri Horner in an exclusive press conference today.
Tom McAlpin, president and CEO for Virgin Voyages, added: “We see music as an essential element to a holiday, not just for parties but also as the soundtrack to laughter, relaxation and much more.
“It’s an honour to have an outstanding artist like Mark Ronson helping us develop our sailor experience, alongside an exciting line-up of DJs joining our On Deck residency program.”
