Enter our prize draw to win a Saga Christmas market cruise, and you and a guest could be sailing to Belgium on stylish new ship Spirit of Discovery.
Strolling around a Christmas market among stalls brimming with stocking fillers, twinkling fairy lights and the warming aroma of mulled wine is one of the best ways to get into the festive spirit. With this in mind, we’ve teamed up with Saga Cruises to offer you the chance to win a Saga Christmas Market cruise to Belgium.
And that’s not all – the five-night round-trip from Southampton will be on board the line’s newest ship, Spirit of Discovery. For a chance to win, all you need to do is enter online (below) by 11.59pm on 24 January 2020.
The Festive Continent cruise departs Southampton on 16 December 2020 and you’ll get to spend the next day at sea discovering the delights of Spirit of Discovery. The ship takes its design cues and outstanding levels of service from the world’s best boutique hotels, and features Saga Cruises’ widest ever choice of restaurants. Pick from the likes of the Grand Dining Room, where you can feast on fine British and international cuisine, laid-back eatery The Grill and the eastern-inspired East to West.
You can also unleash your creative side, as well as get to know your fellow guests, at a series of Christmas crafts workshops. And as every cabin has a balcony, you’ll have your own spacious retreat complete with ocean views.
Wake up on day three in Antwerp. A two-night stay in this culture-packed city gives ample time to explore its impressive architecture and magnificent museums. But the biggest draws at this time of year are the charming medieval alleyways adorned with Christmas decorations and the traditional market selling authentic wares and handmade gifts. Over 100 stalls line the 550-yard stretch between historic Groenplaats square and medieval fortress Steenplein.
Other activities include ice skating on the large rink near Groenplaats, taking in panoramic views from the city’s giant Ferris wheel and sampling smoutebollen (Belgian doughnuts) and Glühwein (mulled wine) from the market stalls.
The next stop on your Saga Christmas market cruise is Zeebrugge on the north coast of Belgium. Not only is the seaside resort renowned for its long sandy coastline, but it’s also famed for its historic fish market – it’s nicknamed the ‘capital of fish’ after all. There’s an old fishing port, too, lined with old fishermen’s pubs and trendy brasseries.
But vying for your attention is the nearby medieval city of Bruges reached from Zeebrugge via an included transfer. Even more merrymaking awaits in this pocket-sized UNESCO-listed gem, where Christmas trees, festive foliage and fairy lights transform the romantic canals and picturesque cobbled streets into a winter wonderland. At the heart of the old city, in Grote Markt, you can browse quaint wooden chalets laden with hand-made decorations, before warming up with an authentic Belgian hot chocolate.
After sailing overnight, you’ll wake up back in Southampton. Enjoy a final breakfast on board the ship, then return home full of the joys of Christmas.
